What services could be reduced or eliminated if property taxes disappear?
And how would you still end up paying—even without property taxes?
Join Collier County Clerk Crystal Kinzel (LWVCC member) as she explores the history of property taxes and explains the real-world consequences you and your community could face.
| NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT
While at Lobby Days I had the opportunity to hear Mary Ellen Klas, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist from Bloomberg speak. She hit home so many points that resonated with me, and I wanted to highlight a few for you.
- This is not a normal year. It has not been a normal eight years. We are living through a hurricane.
- The League of Women Voters are on the frontline.
- Congress has abdicated its check and balance role.
- Preserving democracy cannot be an afterthought.
- We are experiencing a systematic demise of democracy.
So what can we do? Vote! Get out the Vote!

Volunteer to observe the City of Naples Canvassing Board for the 2026 Naples Municipal election! At an open public meeting, the Canvassing Board conducts the Logic and Accuracy test of ballot processing and voting machines, reviews Vote-by-Mail (VBM) and provisional ballots, certifies the official results of the election and observes the manual audit of precinct/race. This is an important League service in supporting our mission of free and fair elections, with interesting people who care about election security. Volunteers are needed for the following dates and times:
- Tuesday, February 3, 5:00 p.m. (VBM ballots, Preliminary Returns)
- Thursday, February 5, 5:05 p.m. (VBM & Provisional Ballots, Official Certification, Select Audit Precinct)
- Wednesday February 11, 10:00 a.m. (Manual Audit)
The meetings will be held at the office of the Supervisor of Elections, 3750 Enterprise Avenue, Naples, 34104. If you can observe one or more meetings, volunteer observers will receive background information to familiarize them with this interesting and important task.

MARCH 2026 Selection

For those who enjoy a memoir that is inspirational and candid, that shows the importance of determination and family, and offers an intimate look into a woman’s personal and professional journey, then Lovely One by Ketanji Brown Jackson is the perfect book for you. Jackson’s book was suggested by League members who read it, knowing that it would lead to a great discussion of this native Miami, first Black woman appointed to the US Supreme Court. Monday, March 16, 3 p.m. is the date for getting together to chat about this book. As an FYI, and if you like the shorter young adult version, that just became available in January. Both versions are available at our new independent bookstore: Books on Third, 1300 Third Street South, Suite 201, Naples. www.booksonthird.com. The location of the discussion will be available after registering. There are a limited number of seats, so get your copy, sign-up on the website calendar and start reading! For more information e-mail Ida Margolis.
