About this event

Gretchen Cusick, Ph.D., and Katie Pelech, MA, from the Center for Neighborhood Engaged Research and Science (CORNERS) at Northwestern University, will explore where and at what scale public funds for Community Violence Intervention (CVI) were invested and the overall impact on community safety outcomes

Gretchen Cusick, PhD, is the Senior Research Director of the Center for Neighborhood Engaged Research & Science (CORNERS), where she helps direct the Center’s scientific and research engagements in partnership with neighborhoods, community organizations, and public systems. She is a research and policy leader with more than two decades of experience conducting and translating research to inform policy and practice in violence prevention, juvenile justice, and child welfare. Gretchen partners closely with public agencies, juvenile legal systems, and community-based organizations to implement and evaluate violence prevention strategies and efforts to support community safety and well-being. Prior to arriving at Northwestern, Gretchen was a Senior Research Fellow at Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago, where she led program evaluations, participatory action research, and implementation initiatives across multiple states and localities. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Miami University and her Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University.

Katie Pelech, MA, is a Research Project Manager at CORNERS with a particular interest in community-based research and program evaluation. She previously worked in a Chicago-based drop-in center for youth experiencing homelessness before transitioning to nonprofit evaluation. Since then, she has conducted research and continuous evaluations of human service programs, including in-depth work with innovative violence prevention programming and opportunity youth services. Katie earned an MA in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago in 2019. In her free time, she enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, and exploring the city on Divvy bikes.
