Teresa Stohs headshotNOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT

I have been asked to host a Lunch & Learn for LWVFL on June 12th on fundraising. Years ago, when I was in Toastmasters, I created a speech on the fear of fundraising. I called it Philanthrophobia. While I made up the name, the subject is very real. Many people say, “I don’t like to fundraise.” What they really mean is, “I am afraid of rejection.” In over 30 years of fundraising, working with the wealthy, community leaders, Board members and volunteers, it always comes down to that. Oh, there certainly may be other issues involved. But that is at the core. My friends tell me I have the "ask" gene. What I really have is a strong commitment to and belief in the issues and organizations I fundraise for, and that makes it easy—or at least easier.

Last year we decided to replace the funding generated by Celebrate the League, with a quiet campaign, asking previous donors to LWVCC if they would make an outright gift instead of buying a table or tickets. Most were very happy to do that, for a couple the timing was off. So don’t be surprised if you hear from me this summer. With the change in dues structure, our fundraising is more important than ever.

JUNE 10 @ 4:30-6:30
Taberna Burntwood in Mercato

Please join us on Wednesday, June 10th for a casual summer evening with your LWVCC colleagues at Taberna Burntwood in Mercato ( 9110 Strada Place). It is a great time to get to know more League members and catch up with “year-rounders” you may not have seen in a while. We will have a few appetizers and there will be a cash bar. Feel free to bring a spouse, partner, or friend—this is purely a social event! Any questions, please feel free to contact Tina Palmese or Jan Eustis.

Mark your calendar for the second Wine and Wisdom of the summer: Ridgeway's Bar and Grill 1300 13th Ave S Wednesday, July 15, 4:30-6:30
