VOTER SERVICES TRANSPARENCY TOUR
September 3 @ 10:00-11:30
Supervisor of Elections Office

Please join us for a full tour of the SOE Election Operation Center. It is a wonderful experience to see first hand the depth of the election process for both in-person Voting and Vote-By-Mail tabulation. See why Collier County has one of the top SOE operations in Florida! It is especially relevant as we are preparing for the November general election. All members are welcome! Any questions, please contact Tina Palmese.
| NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT
Yesterday morning I wrote my Notes from the President about the Court’s procedural vote on USPS. Yesterday afternoon, that status changed. Here’s the link to the final USPS rule on mail-in or absentee ballots, which was published today. Thanks to Liza McClenaghan for helping me keep up to date. Four lawsuits now challenge the final USPS rule: two in Massachusetts (the state AGs and the LWV plaintiffs) and two in DC (the Dem party plaintiffs and the LULAC plaintiffs). Those cases will see much more activity in the coming days, including new motions for injunctions and temporary restraining orders (TROs).
I know it is hard to keep track of everything going on. We are bombarded with information, and yet, we often still do not know. What types of information could LWVCC provide you with that would be most helpful? Let me know your thoughts and suggestions at President@lwvcolliercounty.org. As you know, we have changed the content of The Voter. We are doing some testing and would appreciate your feedback. Thanks much.

Your general election ballot might include more than 45 local, state, and federal offices to be filled, though the exact number depends on your residence address. In this presentation, Sandy Parker will review the offices and candidates, proposed amendments to the Florida constitution, and proposed local referenda that will be on the ballot for Collier County voters.

Volunteer to observe the Canvassing Board for the 2026 Collier County Primary Election. At an open public meeting, the Canvassing Board conducts the Logic and Accuracy test of ballot processing and voting machines, reviews Vote-by-Mail (VBM) and provisional ballots, certifies the official results of the election and observes the manual audit of precinct/race. This is an important League service in supporting our mission of free and fair elections, with interesting people who care about election security. Volunteers are needed for the following dates and times:
- Wednesday, September 2, 9:00-11:00 (Manual Audit)
The meetings will be held at the office of the Supervisor of Elections, 3750 Enterprise Avenue, Naples, 34104. If you can observe one or more meetings, volunteer observers will receive background information to familiarize them with this interesting and important task.

Collier County School Board
Regular Meeting August 19, 2026
Highlights
Submitted by the Education Ambassadors
- Over the summer, CCPS provided an average of 11,000 weekly breakfasts and 16,000 lunches, extended school year classes for 700 students with disabilities, Drivers’ Ed Classes, and Day One events to welcome students back.
- The board attorney reported that new, more-neutral ballot language on Amendment 3 - Property Taxes was submitted for the November 2026 Ballot.
- Members registered disappointment with Collier County low voter turnout in the primary (26% of eligible voters) and suggested that all November candidates be asked their thoughts regarding education (public schools, school vouchers, school choice, etc.).
- CCPS again led the state in lowest % of chronic absenteeism in Florida for the second year in a row.
- To support kids getting their high school diplomas who don’t have enough credits to graduate with their cohorts in June, CCPS has August and Winter graduation ceremonies.
- Since Florida only funds high schools for 6 periods a day, CCPS will analyze data on the number of students taking 7 classes as an area for possible cost reductions in the future.
- CCPS is organizing Instructional Materials Reviews this school year for Math, Algebra, Geometry, Spanish and French texts. Volunteers can sign up through September 4, 2026. For details, www.collierschools.com
