Subject: LWVCC Update for September 3, 2026
From: Your Local League of Women Voters

Your general election ballot might include more than 45 local, state, and federal offices to be filled, though the exact number depends on your residence address. In this presentation, Sandy Parker will review the offices and candidates, proposed amendments to the Florida constitution, and proposed local referenda that will be on the ballot for Collier County voters.

Collier County School Board
Regular Meeting August 19, 2026
Highlights
Submitted by the Education Ambassadors
  1. Over the summer, CCPS provided an average of 11,000 weekly breakfasts and 16,000 lunches, extended school year classes for 700 students with disabilities, Drivers’ Ed Classes, and Day One events to welcome students back.
  2. The board attorney reported that new, more neutral ballot language on Amendment 3 - Property Taxes was submitted for the November 2026 Ballot.
  3. Members registered disappointment with Collier County's low voter turnout in the primary (26% of eligible voters) and suggested that all November candidates be asked their thoughts regarding education (public schools, school vouchers, school choice, etc.).
  4. CCPS again led the state in the lowest % of chronic absenteeism in Florida for the second year in a row.
  5. To support kids getting their high school diplomas who don’t have enough credits to graduate with their cohorts in June, CCPS has August and Winter graduation ceremonies.
  6. Since Florida only funds high schools for 6 periods a day, CCPS will analyze data on the number of students taking 7 classes as an area for possible cost reductions in the future.
  7. CCPS is organizing Instructional Materials Reviews this school year for Math, Algebra, Geometry, Spanish and French texts. Volunteers can sign up through September 4, 2026. For details, www.collierschools.com
