Let's Grow Together! Bring a Friend to Our General Meetings

Teresa Stohs headshot 200x250NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT

Just a little more than a month away from the General Election. Here are some important dates to keep in mind:
  • October 5 – Voter registration deadline
  • October 22 – Request Vote-by-mail ballot deadline
  • October 22-31 – Early voting period, 9am-6pm, 11 locations
  • November 3 – Election Day
I had the privilege of hearing Trish Robertson, Training & Communications Director for the Collier County Supervisor of Elections, speak Monday evening. We are very fortunate to have such knowledgeable and committed people serving Collier County voters.

We are hoping to have a stronger turnout than during the primaries. The typical Collier County is a 66-year-old Republican, Caucasian woman. Collier County had a 26.50% voter turnout compared to 25.26% statewide. Because turnout was so low, votes had a disproportionate influence. Take Marco Island’s Bond Referendum. The vote was decided by one vote. Who says your vote doesn’t count?

MOVIES THAT MATTER: FILM & DISCUSSION SERIES

Join fellow League members this October for two thought-provoking documentaries in the Steve Brazina Memorial Movies That Matter series at the Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center. Each event features a documentary screening, an expert panel, and a dedicated post-movie League discussion on how these critical issues tie directly into voting and democracy.
  • October 21, 2:00 PM – Possible Selves: Overcoming the Odds in Foster Care
An intimate, heartfelt look into the lives of youth navigating foster care. Stick around after the panel for a League conversation on youth welfare, policy, and how your vote impacts vulnerable populations.
  • October 28, 2:00 PM – The Grand Alliance
A powerful look at the historic civil rights alliance between Black and Jewish communities in the 1950s and 1960s. Our post-panel discussion will explore coalition-building, civil rights history, and the continuous fight to protect voting rights.

Reserve Your Spot: Admission is free, and the League has secured a reserved block of tickets. Please register in advance on the League of Women Voters of Collier County Website to secure your seat.

VOTE411.ORG IS LIVE

Our local League of Women Voters of Collier County published its online non-partisan voter guide with all the local general election (Nov. 3) races on Vote411.org – every race on your ballot is covered…county, state and federal. The guide also has great information on ballot measures/referenda. Simply put your address into Vote411 and you’ll see what will be on your ballot, including profiles from candidates. Hear each candidates own words about their positions on the issues that face Collier citizens. Referendum questions include a discussion of the issues and what a Yes or No vote will mean. VOTE411.ORG is the League’s one-stop-shop where you can find nonpartisan voting information. Please also tell your friends, neighbors and relatives to check Vote411 before they cast their ballots – let’s all be informed voters!
