Connie Fako Shoemake
Connie is a driven business and technology leader who whole-heartedly applies her strengths to community involvement and mentoring future leaders. She is well organized and passionate about her community involvement and helping others. Connie is committed to creating a better world for future generations and mentoring future leaders.
Connie joined the LWVCC in 2018 (due to family care was not able to participate), she reactivated her membership in 2022. Since then, she has been involved in the Juvenile Justice Committee, Education Committee, Co-Chair of the Know Your County Government program, Voter Service Committee, and the League Leadership program. She serves as the LWVCC Board Secretary.
When asked what aspects of the League’s work she felt are most essential, Connie replied, “Educating the community on how and why to express their opinions and vote. Communicating key issues to the community (non-partisan viewpoint) by league participation at community events and working on mass marketing programs are also important.”
Connie’s experience as a business leader for over forty years allows her to share her skills in education, strategy, process, and business development. Connie has also served on multiple community organizations. She is a former board member for Friendship Senior Options in Illinois, Special Olympics of Illinois, National Children’s Center (NCC) in Washington DC, Immanuel Lutheran School, Illinois Technology Association, Illinois State University Advisory board to the College of Business and the Chicago Mayor’s Council on Technology. Connie has been active in professional organizations that Connie has been active in include League of Women Voters, Women in Technology, and the Chicago Executive’s Club. She participated in the Lake County, Illinois and Collier County, Florida CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) program as an advocate for children in the court systems. She has participated in curriculum development and teaching high school students in Palatine, Illinois and Naples, Florida
Coupling her experience with business, and her passion for community involvement makes her a natural fit for LWVCC.
