Teresa Stohs

During Teresa’s high school years in southern Missouri, there was controversy over how to pronounce the state's name. Was it Miss-our-ah or Miss-our-ee? It went to the State legislature, which declined to rule. Those in the southern part of the State pronounced it Miss-our-ah, and they did not want to lose all those votes. That’s how she became aware of and interested in political issues.

She spent most of her career working for and with nonprofit organizations in marketing, development and executive leadership (she served as an Executive Director for four nonprofits). Early in her career, she taught high school and later was an adjunct professor while holding other positions.

Now retired, Teresa is an avid reader, loves cruising with her husband, and is a classic car enthusiast.
Teresa Stohs has been a member of the League of Women Voters of Collier County for nearly 10 years. She has served as Chair of the Development & Outreach Committee, a Board member, 1st Vice President of the Board of Directors, and, most recently, as President.

One of her favorite quotes is by Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” It is in that spirit she leads the League of Women Voters of Collier County.
