Mission
The Juvenile Justice Committee (JJC) supports programs that assist at risk youth develop into responsible, productive citizens. This encompasses:
- Focusing on delinquency prevention in schools and juvenile justice system, and programs that give kids a second chance after a misdemeanor or low-level felony.
- Promoting programs that value kids’ basic needs including their safety and mental health, while also promoting fairness and racial equity.
Program Description 2024-2025

Civil Citation. Increase awareness of Civil Citation among a) LWV members via Voter and one Hot Topic presentation, b) general community via LTEs and Opinion Piece c) priority audiences (including Hispanic audience) via Power Point presentation and Civil Citation fact sheet.
- One Size Fits All vs Hybrid Discipline Program. To combat rising suspension rates, implement pilot program in one or more Collier County schools that incorporates a positive approach, encourages kids to take responsibility for their actions, and teaches them to modify their behavior. Target date: Fall semester, 2025.
- Juvenile Justice Legislation and Related JJ Topics. Throughout 2024-25, monitor:
- pending bills in the State Legislature that impact vulnerable kids, as well as actions initiated by the State Executive Branch (including the Department of Education,
- topics related to vulnerable youth including human trafficking, homelessness, poverty, foster system, and juvenile incarceration.
Educate, increase awareness, advocate as appropriate.
